Emerson to Present E360 Webinar on A2L Refrigerant Use in Commercial Refrigeration

Emerson announced it will host an E360 Webinar on Thursday, May 27 at 10 a.m. ET (7 a.m. PT) titled, “Preparing for the Safe Use of A2L Refrigerants in Commercial Refrigeration.” It will be co-hosted by Dr. Rajan Rajendran, Emerson’s vice president, systems innovation center and sustainability. The webinar, aimed at retailers and equipment manufacturers, will be a roundtable discussion featuring European retailer, ASDA.

With the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) expected to publish a series of rules for the production and consumption of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) as well as sector-based controls, flammable refrigerants that are classified as A2L (mildly flammable) and A3 (highly flammable) will need updated safety standards for equipment and field applications. This E360 Webinar will explore the safe use of A2L refrigerants in commercial refrigeration and the transition to low- global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants.

Recent Underwriter Laboratories (UL) and Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) webinars have focused on educating the equipment manufacturers and users of commercial refrigeration equipment about the availability of A2L and A3 refrigerant safety standards. This webinar, sponsored by Emerson, is a part of that series, and will address the safe use of A2L refrigerants in commercial refrigeration and the proper application of A2L refrigerants in grocery stores, specifically.

“Flammable refrigerants that are classified A2L and A3 need updated safety standards for the equipment and field application here in the U.S.,” said Rajendran. “In the past two years, several industry working groups have done just that, and are well on their way to nearing final approval. Our customers can learn from those who have taken this path toward low-GWP refrigerants.”

Join us as we learn from ASDA about their sustainability journey in converting from high-GWP A1 refrigerants to low-GWP A2Ls. Attendees will learn:

  • How ASDA applied A2L systems in their stores in a safe and effective way in a retail application.
  • The successful precedence in Europe for converting from high-GWP to low-GWP refrigerants.
  • Safety standards for equipment and applications being developed in the U.S. for safe and effective use of low-GWP A2L refrigerants in commercial refrigeration.
  • Equipment, design, training of personnel and maintenance procedures along with lessons learned from ASDA’s sustainability journey.

Also included in this webinar will be: Helen Walter-Terrinoni of AHRI; Lauren MacGowens of AHRI; Tim Anderson of Hussmann Corporation; Stephen Spletzer of The Chemours Company; and Brian Churchyard of ASDA.
