On 21 October 2025, Europe celebrated the second edition of Heat Pump Day, an initiative coordinated by the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) to promote the understanding and uptake of electric heat pumps. The event highlights the role of this technology in advancing the continent’s energy transition and decarbonisation goals.
Heat Pump Day brought together partners from across Europe to share experiences and promote the benefits of heat pumps for residential and commercial buildings. These systems are seen as a key solution for reducing reliance on fossil fuels while improving energy efficiency.
The celebration included more than 60 activities throughout Europe, ranging from online webinars and round tables to technical workshops and public events. The aim is to engage a wide audience—citizens, students, technicians, and policymakers—on the potential of electric heat pump technology.
Participants were also encouraged to take part in the “Heat Pump Voices” initiative, sharing short videos on social media to highlight their involvement in the sector and promote broader awareness under the hashtag #HeatPumpDay.
Heat Pump Day celebrated in the U.S. as well
While Heat Pump Day is marked in Europe on October 21, the United States has its own industry awareness day dedicated to heat pump technologies — Heat Pump Water Heater Day.
This day focuses on promoting heat pump water heaters (HPWHs) and their role in reducing energy use and carbon emissions. In 2024, it was celebrated on October 23, and it will take place again on October 23, 2025.
The initiative is led by the Advanced Water Heating Initiative, which brings together manufacturers, utilities, and environmental organizations to advance energy-efficient technologies across the U.S.
