Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Competitions in Full Swing at WorldSkills Lyon 2024

The 47th edition of the WorldSkills Competition, the world’s largest international skills event, is now underway, taking place from September 10-15, 2024, in Lyon, France. Over 1,400 talented young professionals from 69 countries are competing in 62 skill categories, with Refrigeration and Air Conditioning as one of the key featured skills.

Competitors will showcase their expertise across a range of professions, including Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, a critical skill for maintaining efficient cooling systems vital for food safety, industrial processes, and climate control in residential and commercial settings.

The competition follows the WorldSkills Occupational Standards (WSOS), which define the essential skills, knowledge, and performance levels expected from refrigeration and air conditioning professionals.

These technicians are responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, and repairing complex cooling systems. Their work supports various industries by ensuring energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and the safety of systems that handle refrigerants and maintain temperature control. In the competition, participants are evaluated on their ability to implement these tasks effectively while using low-GWP refrigerants and adhering to the latest safety and environmental standards.

The WSOS outline the comprehensive skills required in this field, covering work organization and management, communication, system design, installation, maintenance, commissioning, and fault-finding. The focus is on ensuring high-quality installations that contribute to a sustainable future by reducing energy consumption and minimizing the environmental impact of refrigeration systems.

WorldSkills Lyon 2024 provides a platform for competitors to demonstrate these vital skills, contributing to the global effort of advancing sustainable and energy-efficient technologies in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry.
