WorldSkills Lyon 2024 Set to Showcase Global Talent in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning

The 47th edition of the WorldSkills Competition, the world’s largest international skills competition, will take place from September 10-15, 2024, in Lyon. Over 1,400 talented young professionals from 69 countries and regions will compete in 62 skill categories, with Refrigeration and Air Conditioning as one of the featured skills.

WorldSkills Lyon 2024, which has been more than five years in the making, is expected to attract over 250,000 visitors. This event will provide a global stage for Competitors to demonstrate their expertise across various trades, including the crucial skill of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. This skill is essential in maintaining cooling and heating systems that are vital for food safety, industrial processes, and comfort in both residential and commercial settings.

Refrigeration and Air Conditioning specialists will be judged on their ability to design, install, maintain, and repair cooling systems that are energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable. As the world increasingly focuses on green technology and energy savings, this skill has become indispensable in helping reduce the carbon footprint of modern infrastructure.

Key Details of WorldSkills Lyon 2024:

  • Dates: September 10-15, 2024
  • Location: Eurexpo Lyon, covering 140,000m², equivalent to 26 football fields
  • Participants: 1,400 Competitors and 1,300 Experts
  • Visitors: Over 250,000 expected from 90+ countries
  • Skill Competitions: 62 skills, including Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
  • Venues: Opening ceremony at LDLC Arena (16,000 seats), closing ceremony at OL Stadium (60,000 seats)

Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Skill Highlights: Competitors will focus on tasks like system design, fault diagnosis, and implementation of sustainable cooling technologies. With the growing demand for energy-efficient solutions, the future of refrigeration and air conditioning lies in smart systems that optimize performance while minimizing environmental impact.

As part of the wider WorldSkills movement, which encourages excellence and innovation in vocational training, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning play a pivotal role in supporting industries like healthcare, food storage, and climate control. Competitors in this category are at the forefront of ensuring that refrigeration systems contribute to global energy efficiency goals.

WorldSkills Lyon 2024 will feature over 900 accredited media representatives, broadcasting the competition and providing over 20 hours of live coverage. The event will also include 51 Try-a-Skill activities, giving visitors the chance to experience the expertise required in various professions, including Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.
