IOR recognised student research at Adaptation 2025

Institute of Refrigeration President Lisa Jane Cook FInstR presented certificates and prizes in recognition of three outstanding research papers presented by students at the IOR-organised First IIR International Conference on Refrigeration Adapting to Rising Temperatures.

A paper on “Modelling Water Condensation on Fruit Bulks Exposed to Temperature Fluctuations” won the Overall Student Prize at Adaptation 2025. The paper, written by Thanut Nuangjamnong of the Université Paris-Saclay, INRAE, focused on developing a model of heat and mass transfer in bulk fruits, including condensation. The model aimed to forecast air and product temperature evolution and the accumulation of water condensation, helping to prevent condensation, which is unfavourable for product quality.

The student awards, sponsored by J&E Hall, also recognised two other papers:

  • “Experimental Evaluation of R472B as R23 Alternative for Ultra-Low Temperature Refrigeration” by Pau Giménez-Prades of Universitat Jaume I.

  • “Application of CO2 Refrigeration Systems on Small Fishing Vessels: Experimental Laboratory & Simulation Results” by Alex Reimer of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

The IIR International Conference on Refrigeration Adapting to Rising Temperatures was the first event of its kind, providing a platform for industry leaders, academics and engineers to find tangible solutions to the challenges posed by rising ambient temperatures for the cooling sector. The programme included presentations on Environmental, Social and Governance, Managing Risks, and the Future Landscape for the RACHP sector, and attracted over 110 delegates.
