Hussmann Adds A2L Systems and Merchandisers in North America

The expanded Evolve Technologies portfolio spans complete-store equipment for grocery and convenience retailers using R-454A and R-454C.

Hussmann Adds A2L Systems and Merchandisers in North America

Hussmann, a Panasonic company, has introduced A2L solutions for commercial refrigeration applications in North America. The products join the company’s Evolve Technologies portfolio of low global warming potential solutions and include refrigeration systems and merchandisers for grocery and convenience retail applications.

The company said it is first to market in North America for outdoor distributed A2L refrigeration systems. Hussmann also said it is the first refrigeration company to offer a complete store solution covering compressorized systems, condensing units, evaporators, condensers and a broad range of merchandising case options.

A2L refrigerants are refrigerant blends designed to provide significantly lower GWP than many existing HFC refrigerants while maintaining performance in conventional systems. Options used in refrigeration include R-454C and R-454A, which Hussmann said are compliant with federal regulations under the Environmental Protection Agency AIM Act.

Available A2L refrigeration options include the Protocol OLP with integrated or remote condensers, condensing units, small and large Krack evaporators, and Krack Levitor and Microchannel condensers. Compatible A2L-ready merchandisers include Insight multidecks, Impact reach-ins, Excel frozen islands and other display solutions.

The A2L models are engineered for medium- and low-temperature applications and are intended for store environments ranging from small convenience stores to large-format supermarkets and warehouse spaces. Hussmann said refrigeration industry experts will provide training for technicians installing and maintaining A2L equipment, including guidance on store designs with outdoor and indoor equipment that meets UL equipment requirements and building codes associated with A2L installations.

“The launch of our first A2L commercial refrigeration systems and merchandisers is an important step in helping our grocery and convenience customers navigate the industry’s transition to next-generation refrigerants,” says Tim Figge, CEO, Hussmann Corporation. “We’re committed to delivering innovative, reliable solutions that make it easier for retailers to adopt sustainable technologies while continuing to operate more efficiently. This milestone reflects our focus on supporting our customers with forward-looking refrigeration solutions that meet both today’s needs and tomorrow’s requirements.”
