Americold Expands Retail Operations in Portugal With Jerónimo Martins

Americold has announced a new long-term relationship with Jerónimo Martins, Portugal’s leading retail group, expanding its portfolio of retail operations across Europe.

Under the multi-year agreement, Americold will manage the storage and store case pick fulfillment of approximately 12 million cases of frozen products annually. The operations will serve roughly 300 retail stores across Portugal.

The work is centralized at Americold’s Lisbon facility, which the company describes as a strategic cold chain hub for the Portuguese retail market. To support the operations, Americold has refurbished cold storage chambers and increased throughput capacity at the site.

The collaboration has created more than 80 new jobs, expanding the facility’s workforce by over 40%.

“Americold’s proven expertise in temperature-controlled warehousing and its ability to ensure operational reliability were key factors in this relationship,” said Ricardo Mestre, Logistics Director, Jerónimo Martins. “Their capacity to scale, invest in infrastructure, and tailor operations to our needs makes Americold a strong partner in supporting our store network across Portugal.”

Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for Modular Refrigeration Systems in Life Sciences Distribution Centers

by Ramez Naguib, P.E. Introduction Life sciences distribution centers are under immense pressure to deliver consistent temperature control, comply with increasingly stringent regulations, and optimize operational efficiency. Traditional built-up refrigeration systems often prove cumbersome, costly, and slow to implement. In contrast, modular, factory-assembled refrigeration systems have emerged as a compelling alternative. Drawing on lessons from
