Munters expands Virginia data center cooling campus

Munters has inaugurated an expanded data center cooling campus in Virginia, US, adding manufacturing, training and testing space. The expansion enables the company to manufacture customized cooling solutions at greater scale and launch local production of chillers previously produced in Italy.

The 565,000-square-foot (52,000 m²) Daleville campus has close to 600 employees and is the largest of Munters’ five dedicated manufacturing facilities within its Data Center Technologies business area. It produces air side economizers, SyCool Split systems, computer room air handling units (CRAHs), fan coil arrays, coolant distribution units (CDUs) and chillers.

The expanded facility includes the Munters Service Academy, new production test stands and a chiller laboratory equipped with an advanced environmental chamber.

Local chiller manufacturing includes the Circlemiser chiller. According to Munters, its design incorporates cylindrical condensing coils and reduces energy consumption and total required power compared with typical air-cooled chillers.

“The rapid growth of AI and high-performance computing is creating new demands not only for digital infrastructure, but also for the energy, water and physical infrastructure that supports it. With these new capabilities we are well positioned to deliver on our ambitious growth agenda while meeting the needs of customers and communities,” said Stefan Aspman, President of Munters Data Center Technologies.
