GIZ Proklima will host the 13th NDC4 webinar on 3 June from 12:00 to 13:00 UTC to present updated findings on the market trends and techno-economic potential of solar PV-powered room air conditioning. The event will focus on the use of renewable energy, energy-efficient air conditioners, and climate-friendly refrigerants as part of Green Cooling strategies aligned with the Paris Agreement.
The webinar will feature an in-depth presentation by Prof. Paul Kohlenbach of Solem Consulting on the updated study “Solar PV-powered Room Air Conditioning: Market trends and techno-economic potential.” This study revises a 2022 version and explores the decreasing costs of solar PV systems and storage technologies alongside advances in air conditioning systems.
The technical focus will be on single split-type air conditioners with cooling capacities of up to 5 kW for residential and small commercial use. The study analyzes both hybrid and off-grid systems across 17 countries using Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) and Net Present Value (NPV) assessments. A case study on ice storage as an alternative to battery storage will also be presented.
Claudia Alvarez of GIZ Proklima will deliver the opening remarks. The session will conclude with a Q&A segment open to all participants.
