Spain’s HVAC market recorded 11.4% aggregate growth in 2025, according to the Spanish Association of HVAC Equipment Manufacturers (AFEC). The association attributes the result to a combination of price effects, volume dynamics and changes in the market mix across residential, commercial and industrial segments.
Air conditioning units, heat pumps and domestic hot water production equipment grew by 6.5% in 2025, following an adjustment in 2024. AFEC said growth was broadly similar across residential, commercial and industrial segments, while air-source and ground-source heat pump solutions continued to gain acceptance.
The market for air handling units (AHUs) and ventilation units with heat recovery remained broadly flat, increasing 0.9%. However, residential and industrial ventilation and heat recovery units recorded significant growth, supported by regulatory factors, demand from data centres and stricter operational requirements in industry.
AFEC’s August 2026 update also highlights regulatory developments affecting HVAC. Spain is developing a new national framework for certification covering fluorinated greenhouse gases and their alternatives, intended to replace Royal Decree 115/2017 and align national rules with Regulation (EU) 2024/573. New EU ecodesign requirements for fans under Regulation (EU) 2024/1834 have applied since July 24, 2026.
The update also notes that European heat pump sales increased 13% in 2025 to 2.9 million units across 21 countries. In Spain, Royal Decree-law 7/2026 introduced a correction factor with a multiplier effect on certified energy savings under the Energy Savings Certificate (CAE) scheme when a heat pump replaces fossil-fuel equipment.
“Our market shows momentum, but it is not enough on its own; it shows growth, but it demands adaptability and quality of execution. That has been the reality of 2025,” said Marta San Román, Director general, AFEC.
