Global dairy producer Arla has expanded its long-term logistics partnership with Maersk by securing dedicated cold storage capacity at Maersk’s facility in Taulov/Fredericia, Denmark. The agreement, based on an initial ten-year contract, involves converting one unit of an existing warehouse into a temperature-controlled coldstore, set to become operational in summer 2026.
The 9,100 m² unit is part of Denmark’s first BREEAM Excellence certified newbuild fully operated by Maersk. The facility will include two temperature-controlled chambers maintained at 2°C and 5°C, with strict separation between zones. The 5°C area will be fully automated using Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs). Maersk will also install a state-of-the-art cooling system and integrated storage solutions.
Arla, which is owned primarily by the farmers who supply its milk, aims to improve logistics efficiency and resilience through this partnership. David Boulanger, Executive Vice President & Chief Supply Chain Officer at Arla, stated, “Partnering with Maersk enables us to build integrated solutions that contribute to increase the efficiency and also enhance the resilience of our global supply chain that we would not have in our internal operations.”
Maersk has supported Arla’s logistics needs for over 20 years, initially through ocean transport and later expanding to European and intercontinental shipments. The new coldstore is part of a broader logistics setup including ocean and air freight, customs services, inland transport, and cold storage.
“We are honored to build on our partnership with such a global player like Arla enhancing and strengthening their cold chain logistics,” said Birna Odefors, Managing Director of Maersk Area Nordics. “The new coldstore in Denmark is another building block in our integrated logistics solution to serve our customer in their total supply chain.”
