Brazil Seminar Highlights Training Needs Across the Cold Chain

The VII Commercial and Industrial Refrigeration Seminar, held at FIESP on June 23, 2026, brought together engineers, technicians, managers, industry representatives and institutional organizations to discuss refrigeration applied to food safety. The event emphasized the role of commercial and industrial refrigeration in protecting food, reducing waste and financial losses, meeting sanitary requirements and supporting operational efficiency.

Speakers addressed refrigeration across industry, retail and temperature-controlled transport. Companies represented included JBS/Friboi, Nestlé, Heineken, Coldblock and Assaí Atacadista, alongside specialists from SENAI.

Natural refrigerants, including ammonia, CO2 and propane, were among the technologies discussed. Presentations and panels also stressed that engineers, operators and technicians require continued training to work with new refrigerants, energy efficiency requirements and environmental standards.

Representatives of Brazil’s Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change, GIZ, the United Nations Development Programme and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization participated in the seminar. These organizations are active in the Brazilian HCFC Phase-out Programme, which offers free specialized training courses for refrigeration professionals.

Eduardo Macedo of the SENAI Oscar Rodrigues Alves School said: “We are expanding refrigeration courses to 20 SENAI units in the state: out of every 100 students who graduate, 95 work in the field.” Mauricio Barbosa Neto of Assaí Atacadista said: “Good preventive maintenance can increase the service life of refrigeration installations by 50%.”

The seminar was supported by ABRAVA, SINDRATAR and other industry organizations. Speakers linked efficient technologies, institutional cooperation and continuous technical training with food protection and environmental goals.
