Carrier Transicold supplies 112 Syberia units to Bidcorp UK fleet

Bidcorp UK has placed its first major order with Carrier Transicold for over 100 new rigid trucks fitted with engineless Syberia refrigeration units to improve the sustainability and performance of its Bidfood temperature-controlled fleet.

The order includes 112 Syberia 18i Twincool units installed on 98 18-tonne Scania P250 and 13 26-tonne Scania P280 vehicles, along with one Syberia 11 mono-temperature unit on another 18-tonne Scania truck. All vehicles feature insulated bodies from Gray & Adams and will replace existing trucks using competitor systems.

Carrier’s Syberia units operate without a secondary diesel engine by using the truck’s Euro VI engine via the Eco-Drive power module. This system powers a generator through a hydraulic pump to provide full refrigeration capacity at idle speeds for both single and multi-temperature applications. The units are PIEK-compliant, operating below 60 dB(A), and include features such as a hermetic scroll compressor, efficient economiser and electric drive architecture.

The Syberia’s compact, aerodynamic design reduces drag and contributes to fuel efficiency. The units are covered by Carrier’s BluEdge fixed-cost full-service maintenance package, including temperature control testing, regulatory checks, and access to the oneCALL 24/7 service.

“When we saw the power and flexibility of Carrier Transicold’s Syberia units, we were confident investing in the technology,” said Faye Reeve, Head of Procurement at Bidcorp UK. “We’ve been suitably impressed by the unit’s sleeker, more aerodynamic design, its rapid pull-down speeds and the system’s ability to deliver maximum cooling capacity, even when the truck is simply ticking over.”

Tony Biggs, National Sales Manager at Carrier Transicold, added: “This marks the first major order for its flagship Bidfood fleet. Our engineless technology can deliver powerful performance in both single and multi-temperature configurations, alongside unrivalled refrigerant retention and improved efficiency.”

The new vehicles will be deployed across Bidfood depots nationwide, supporting multi-drop deliveries to sectors including healthcare, education, hospitality and retail. Each truck is expected to run six days a week, covering up to 25,000 miles (approx. 40,200 km) annually over a 10-year lifespan.
