Cougar Couriers has added two rigid trucks equipped with Carrier Transicold’s Supra High Efficiency (HE) refrigeration units to its temperature-controlled fleet, supporting pharmaceutical deliveries across the UK and Europe. The investment includes one of the first Supra HE 13 units to be deployed in the UK, alongside a Supra HE 6 unit.
The new vehicles, supplied by FVTH Commercial Vehicle Hire with insulated bodywork from Polar Truck & Van, join a 15-vehicle fleet operating 24/7. They replace older models and are expected to deliver precise temperature control for same-day transport of temperature-sensitive goods, including medications and medical supplies.
The Supra HE series offers improved fuel economy and quieter operation, with the Supra HE 6 consuming up to 41% less fuel than its predecessor, the Supra 750. The units also use 42% less refrigerant and have 30% fewer brazed joints, reducing the potential for refrigerant leakage. The Supra HE 13 model offers 27% fuel savings compared to the legacy unit while maintaining a compact, lightweight design.
Both systems integrate mechanical and electrical subsystems and feature a single drive belt powertrain with variable speed fans. An insulated exhaust system and redesigned cover contribute to a 2 dB(A) noise reduction compared to standard units, which supports quieter urban deliveries.
“Given the sensitive nature of the pharmaceutical products we transport, ensuring temperature integrity is maintained throughout the cold chain is non-negotiable,” said Matt Wigglesworth, Transport Manager, Cougar Couriers. “This is why we have been turning to Carrier for years now – they supply the best refrigeration equipment on the market, which means our customers can always trust us to look after their cargo.”
The new trucks are expected to cover approximately 50,000 km annually and remain in operation for up to four years. Both are covered by Carrier Transicold’s oneCALL 24/7 incident management service.
