Delta Development Team receives US patent for APRU-6L portable refrigeration unit

Delta Development Team, Inc. announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted U.S. Patent No. 12,566,016 for the company’s Autonomous Portable Refrigeration Unit (APRU-6L). The patent protects the design and technology behind the portable refrigeration system developed to support cold-chain logistics for blood products, vaccines, and other temperature-sensitive medical materials.

According to the company, the APRU-6L integrates autonomous cooling control, portable power capability, and a durable design intended for use in off-grid and extreme environments. The unit is designed to maintain precise temperature ranges without external power, enabling operation in settings such as battlefield medical units, emergency response incidents, disaster relief operations, and remote healthcare deployments.

The patented system includes thermal regulation mechanisms and device monitoring functions that provide visibility of system performance. Its integrated control and monitoring interface enables real-time temperature monitoring and provides alerts in the event of temperature excursions.

The APRU-6L can operate for up to 95 hours on a single military-grade battery charge, according to Delta Development Team, and can run continuously when connected to vehicle or shore power. The company states that the system is used by emergency medical services (EMS), military units, and healthcare providers in the United States and internationally.

“This patent solidifies our commitment to revolutionizing how critical medical supplies are preserved and transported when traditional infrastructure is unavailable,” said Montgomery Leija, CEO of Delta Development Team. “The APRU-6L is not just a product — it represents years of engineering innovation focused on saving lives in the most demanding conditions.”

Delta Development Team said the APRU-6L is listed as an FDA medical device and complies with AABB Standards. According to the company, it is one of two devices, together with the Delta ICE 2L, that hold both accreditations for portable blood refrigeration.
