Emergent Cold LatAm has become the first company in Latin America to join the global “Move to -15°C” campaign, a new initiative aiming to shift the storage temperature standard for frozen foods from -18°C to -15°C. This change could significantly reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, aligning with the company’s sustainability goals.
As the fastest-growing refrigerated storage and logistics company in Latin America, Emergent Cold LatAm is taking proactive steps to contribute to global sustainability and food security. According to CEO Neal Rider, raising the storage temperature by 3°C does not compromise food safety and could reduce CO2 emissions by up to 17.7 million metric tons annually, the equivalent of removing millions of cars from the streets.
Emergent Cold LatAm has already made significant strides in sustainability, notably with the recent announcement of the world’s first zero-carbon refrigerated storage facility in Chile. The company hopes to inspire others in Latin America to join the movement and create a more sustainable future for the industry.
Thomas Eskesen, President of the “Move to -15°C” campaign, emphasized the importance of industry collaboration and welcomed Emergent Cold LatAm's commitment. The coalition's expansion into Latin America marks a significant step forward in their efforts to make a positive environmental impact.
