On November 4 and 5, the Global Cold Chain Alliance held the Latin American Cold Chain Congress in Mexico, which focused on knowing the trends, opportunities and challenges of the cold industry in Latin America. The Congress is an open event for the entire Cold Industry of Latin America that includes: logistics operators, refrigerated warehouses / 3PL, refrigerated transport, food processors, builders of refrigerated warehouses, government and educational institutions, with assistance from 81 people During the Congress, attendees, in addition to listening to expert speakers on the topics, had the opportunity to share their ideas, opinions and contributions about the industry.
Mr. Salvador Figueroa Sánchez, Deputy Director of the Latin American Advisory Council, President of the Dominican Association of Logistic Centers and Operators (ASOLOGIC), Vice-President of Institutional Relations MARDOM, Dominican Republic, welcomed the attendees, thus opening the Plenary
The keynote speaker was David Larios, Leader in Innovation Latin America, Nielsen, who developed the Conference “Perspective and best practices of innovation in Latin America” showing the product launches that in the USA, Europe and Latin America managed to be more successful with clear examples and those better practices that allowed them to achieve an incremental sales in the market.
During the two days of the Congress, the participants had the opportunity to participate in addition to the conferences and commercial exhibition, in the Cold Chain Café, a discussion space in round tables in which they contributed with their ideas and opinions about 7 different topics . The topics of the conferences given during the Congress were: Perspective and best practices of innovation in Latin America, Current status and trends of CO2 as a refrigerant in Mexico, Maintaining a balance between matter and energy and the benefits to improve operational, energy and economic performance of its refrigeration systems, Panel discussion: state of the cold chain in Latin America and main challenges, Technological trends in industrial refrigeration, Developments and trends in adiabatic condensers, Agrological development, Opportunities for training in CO2 as a refrigerant in Mexico, Innovations in construction: modern adjustments in construction of controlled temperature environments, Best practices and standards, efficient distribution and operational efficiency in the last mile link, New perspective of value creation creating a culture of safety from the field to the table, Solu energy relations for the cold chain industry, Developing basic skills and leadership leadership in our work team, Correct criteria for the good selection of doors in areas with controlled temperature, Integration of data in real time from the first mile as a contribution to Efficiency of global supply chain, E-Commerce, opportunity or challenge for the 3PL industry. The sessions lasted 45 minutes. At the end of each conference the participants had the opportunity to ask questions.
During the Congress, the competition for the Latin American Future Leader Award 2019 was also held, which had 2 participants: Sonia Bueno, Head of Operations of Frezz & Logistics México and José Antonio Gutiérrez, Quality Assurance and EHS Manager of BASAL-IRESA Mexico, resulting in the latter as the winner who will compete next year for the NextGen award worldwide.
At the end of the Congress, the signing of the Cooperation Agreement between the Global Cold Chain Alliance and the National Agricultural Council of Mexico was carried out, with the aim of growing the industry by optimizing each link in the supply chain in the sector Farming The signing of the Agreement was made by Mr. Jorge Narváez Narváez, Vice President of Agrologistics of the NATIONAL AGRICULTURAL COUNCIL, Mr. Mauricio Barrera de Basal Iresa member of the IARW BOARD OF DIRECTORS – INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REFRIGERATED WINERIES and Mr. Lowell Randel, Director of Regulatory Affairs and Government of the GCCA.

GCCA: The Latin America Future Leader Award 2019
The International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses – IARW – is proud to announce José Antonio Gutiérrez, Quality Assurance Manager and EHS, of BASAL-IRESA, Mexico, as winner of the Future Leading Award of Latin America 2019. The award was presented by Mr. Fernando León Alatorre, Director of Bajo Cero Frigoríficos, S.A. de C.V. and Secretary of the Latin American Advisory Council and Mr. Lowell Randel, Vice President, Regulatory and Government Affairs, Global Cold Chain Alliance.
The Future Leader Award is organized by the Global Cold Chain Alliance and its main partner, the International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses (IARW). In its 3rd edition in Latin America, the Future Leader Award recognizes young people who stand out in the Latin American refrigerated storage industry.
The two finalists who competed for the award were: Sonia Bueno, Chief Operating Officer of Frezz & Logistics, Mexico and José Antonio Gutiérrez, Quality Assurance Manager and EHS at BASAL-IRESA, both finalists exhibited in the plenary of the Congress in Mexico, their experience and knowledge of the industry.
Mr. José Antonio Gutierrez will be able to attend the NextGen 2020 meeting, to be held inside the Global Cold Chain Expo to be held from September 28 to 30 in Dallas Texas, USA. José Antonio Gutierrez will compete with young leaders from around the world in their fight for the GCCA NextGen Award, which seeks to recognize and reward future leaders in the temperature-controlled logistics industry worldwide. The competition will be held with young winners of the leading award from North America, Europe and South Africa.
