Lineage, Inc. has completed a major expansion of its cold storage facility in Hobart, Indiana, adding approximately 188,000 square feet and 58,000 pallet positions with advanced automation technology. The company marked the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by community leaders and announced $50,000 in local grant donations.
The Hobart site, now Lineage’s largest North American facility, has undergone three expansions since 2008. The latest upgrade supports the company’s Velocities program, a multivendor freight consolidation solution that enables temperature-controlled, less-than-truckload shipments to foodservice and retail distribution centers across the U.S. and Canada.
Lineage stated that the fully automated expansion is designed to efficiently manage thousands of product cases daily, enhancing delivery reliability and cost efficiency for its customers.
“This Hobart expansion represents an investment in innovation and supply chain solutions connectivity that helps our customers succeed,” said Greg Bryan, Chief Integrated Solutions Officer at Lineage.
The event also featured the distribution of $50,000 in grants by the Lineage Foundation for Good, in partnership with the Henningsen Family Fund. Local nonprofit organizations chosen by Hobart employees – the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, Phil’s Friends, and the American Red Cross – Northwest Indiana Chapter – received the funding.
In a related development, Lineage has broken ground on a new automated cold storage facility in the Dallas Metroplex. The project is part of the company’s plan to design, build and operate two next-generation warehouses that expand automation capabilities in key U.S. markets for a long-time customer.
The new site is located in Hutchins, Texas, within Dallas County’s Prime Pointe Park, adjacent to Union Pacific Railroad’s Dallas Intermodal Terminal. According to Lineage, the facility will support the needs of food and beverage producers, retailers, and distributors, leveraging Dallas's strategic position with access to major highways, airports, and rail lines.
“Dallas has long been a key market for Lineage, serving as a critical connecting point between food producers and the global food supply chain,” said Tim Smith, Chief Commercial Officer of Lineage. “The groundbreaking of our newest automated facility underscores our commitment to improving and expanding capabilities for our customers, utilizing advanced technologies to reimagine how the cold chain operates and feeds the world.”
The Dallas facility is expected to begin operating in late 2027 and will feature advanced automation, including Lineage’s proprietary LinOS warehouse execution system. It will expand Lineage’s existing footprint in Texas, where the company currently operates 18 facilities.
