McCulla Ireland has taken the next step towards reducing its carbon footprint with Hultsteins' zero-emission Ecogen system.
McCalla began testing Hultsteins' Ecogen2 device more than 12 months ago with a supermarket customer. The Ecogen on-board electric generator is installed on the tractor and effectively converts existing diesel refrigeration units (DRUs) to run on electricity during transport.
Ecogen can be installed on any tractor with an engine power take-off. It generates 400V and easily connects to the TRU refrigerator motor via a five-pin plug.
In addition to adapting TRU to zero-emission energy, Hultsteins' Ecogen system provides a highly cost-effective method for operators to transition to green and sustainable transport refrigeration.
Hultsteins notes that there is no need to replace the TRU of an existing trailer, but by simply installing the Ecogen on a tractor, every refrigerator it is connected to will be converted to electric mode.
While Ecogen units can be applied to both diesel and gas tractors, their ability to highlight the green circle within a square makes them ideal for McCulla gas vehicles, which can attract the attention of large, environmentally conscious customers.
