NewCold has announced a major expansion of its cold logistics operations in Australia, including a new facility in Sydney, expansions at two Melbourne sites, and upgrades to its transport capabilities.
The new Sydney site will add 100,000 frozen pallet positions and is scheduled to begin operations by October 2026. The project is expected to create 100 new jobs, primarily in frontline operations.
In Melbourne, the company will expand its Melbourne I facility by 80,000 frozen pallet positions. With this addition, the site will have a combined capacity of 405,000 pallet positions, including frozen, chilled, and ambient storage. The expansion is set to be operational by July 2026 and will generate 65 new jobs.
The development follows the earlier expansion of Melbourne II, which increased its capacity to 30,000 ambient and 85,000 frozen pallet positions. NewCold is also considering a co-located cross-dock facility at Melbourne I to streamline operations and enhance logistics efficiency across Victoria.
“The key driver behind these expansions is to support the growth of our customers in the region and to help them drive efficiency into their businesses,” said Vivek Rajendran, NewCold VP Commercial ANZ.
NewCold’s logistics network has been strengthened with the acquisition of Karras, a refrigerated transport company founded in 1976. The integration includes rebranded trucks and trailers, enabling NewCold to provide a combined warehouse and transport solution.
“This strategic investment has significantly enhanced our ability to deliver unmatched service levels and supply chain resilience,” said Karthi Karthigeyan, NewCold Regional Managing Director ANZ.
Bram Hage, NewCold Founder and CEO, added: “The latest investment underlines our commitment to Australia and to meeting the needs of our customers.”
