Pioneering Netherlands-based cold chain logistics company, NewCold, has added a cold store operation in Bjuv, near Helsingborg, Sweden to its growing international network.
The 76,000 pallets, 38 meter high facility currently has Findus. Findus is owned by Nomad Foods, one of Europe’s leading frozen food companies. The company’s brand portfolio also includes Birds Eye, Iglo, Aunt Bessie’s and Goodfella’s.
NewCold acquired the operating business at the facility from the Kloosterboer group, including all employee arrangements and third-party contracts, and entered a long-term lease on the property from the owner of the cold store, Centur AB.
Stephane Pluenet, Executive Director Automation Kloosterboer, said that the company decided to focus on the development and management of its own assets in Western Europe. The Nordics are not a key development market in the overall company strategy which led to the logical step to sell Kloosterboer Sweden to NewCold.
Erik Selin, CEO and Founder of Balder, which together with PEAB owns the site through the joint venture Centur AB, said: “We have been pleased to facilitate this upgrade of the cold store. It is always our objective to provide facilities that maximize the benefit of our tenants, and our role in chairing this project and opening up for an operator with state-of-the-art logistical handling systems.”
Bram Hage, Founder and CEO of NewCold said: “We work with Nomad Foods in the United Kingdom and Germany, so this arrangement sees us expanding our relationship with Nomad Foods into Sweden, as well as other valued customers.”
“The facility in Bjuv is our first in this region. Our goal is to modernise the multi-customer facility, grow the customer base, fill the cold store to its capacity and provide the highest quality service levels and efficiencies,” he said.
NewCold’s global growth pipeline includes the delivery of at least six new capital projects, as it continues to develop multiple large-scale automated facilities across Europe, Australia and North America. This momentum confirms a very positive future for its customers and an innovation boost for the industry.
