NewCold has announced plans to invest more than $275 million in a new temperature-controlled automated warehouse in Hagerstown, Maryland. The facility will feature the company’s proprietary automation technology and is expected to generate between 125 and 150 new jobs.
According to the company, the new high-bay warehouse will utilize automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) to handle products with minimal manual intervention. These systems are designed to support advanced logistics operations and create specialized employment opportunities.
The investment has received backing from local and state officials, who highlighted its potential impact on the regional economy and workforce. The location near the Port of Baltimore provides NewCold with access to major rail lines, highways, airports, and global shipping routes.
“We are excited to bring our innovative solutions and proprietary technology to the City of Hagerstown,” said Bram Hage, NewCold Founder and CEO.
NewCold President of North America, Mike Shawgo, emphasized the company’s local workforce strategy: “We work to locally recruit and train teams to operate our facilities. By providing these high-tech roles, we create long-term career opportunities for residents.”
City of Hagerstown Mayor William McIntire stated the project will bring “quality, skilled jobs” and benefit the local economy. Maryland Governor Wes Moore and Commerce Secretary Harry Coker, Jr. also expressed support for the investment and its alignment with the state’s economic goals.
