ORBCOMM has partnered with stakeholders to advance climate action by joining the Move to -15°C coalition. This initiative, launched at COP28, aims to reduce greenhouse emissions, energy usage, and supply chain costs by adjusting frozen food storage and transport temperatures from -18°C to -15°C.
The shift could potentially cut 17.7 million metric tonnes of carbon emissions and save 25 terawatt-hours of energy. ORBCOMM will provide telematics data to measure the impact of this change.
"We're proud to support the evolution of frozen food standards that impact our environment," stated Christian Allred, ORBCOMM's SVP and GM of Maritime IoT.
With over three decades in industrial IoT, ORBCOMM excels in telematics for transportation and maritime, working with six of the top ten global shipping lines to optimize cargo conditions and carbon footprints.
The company's clients are already reducing spoilage, enhancing efficiency, and improving ESG reporting. Now, they can also evaluate the benefits of the Move to -15°C initiative.
The coalition has doubled its membership, now including industry leaders like Maersk, DP World, Hapag-Lloyd, Lineage, Ocean Network Express, and Morrison's.
