Pelican BioThermal released a white paper of market solutions for protecting temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals

Pelican BioThermal recently released a white paper addressing market solutions for protecting temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals while in transit. The white paper, titled "<a href="https://info.pelicanbiothermal.com/activevpassive?_ga=2.60328106.642087724.1529594325-198051196.1529594325" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Active Shipping Containers vs Passive Shipping Containers</a>", provides guidance on making the optimum choice to eliminate confusion, reduce risk and save money evaluating the two main classes of containers used to ship temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products.

<img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-13177" src="https://refindustry.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/active-v-passive-tn-247x350.png" alt="" width="247" height="350" />

"When it comes to maintaining the clinical efficacy of pharmaceuticals, one of the most important criteria is often temperature," said Kevin Lawler, VP of sales at Pelican BioThermal and contributor to the new white paper. "While there are many cold chain container options out there, making the best choice — one that reduces risk and is most cost-effective — involves assessing a variety of factors. And, these factors can vary payload to payload. There’s not a one-size-fits all solution.

Given the highly competitive nature of the cold chain sector that has evolved to meet the needs of temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals, there are many different positions regarding the best ways to address this physically complex issue. This white paper presents an overview of both active and passive containers and provides guidance for the selection of the most appropriate solution for a given payload.

Topics addressed in the white paper include
<ul>
    <li>The need for pharma temperature monitoring, including regulatory compliance, cold chain route qualification and temperature profiling</li>
    <li>Benefits and drawbacks to both active and passive containers</li>
    <li>What it means to ‘pre-qualify’ containers</li>
    <li>Advanced passive packaging system options and how to evaluate the differences between solutions</li>
    <li>Additional considerations for selecting the optimum temperature-controlled packaging, including modeling, single-use vs reusable shippers and environmental considerations</li>
</ul>
In addition to the team at Pelican BioThermal, experts referenced in the white paper include representatives from PWC, Dickson Inc. and World Courier.
