Solomon Commercials delivered a further 6 vehicles for Nicol Hughes

The latest vehicles, build on Renault Master 4.5T Chassis cabs, are the result of continuous and detailed design and development between the two companies, and allow Nicol Hughes to fully utilise the bodies.

Featuring 3 different temperature zones (frozen, chilled and ambient), the vehicle still achieves a remarkable payload of 1400kg, including driver and full tank of fuel. The compartments are split in such a way that all are accessed individually, preventing unnecessary temperature loss from any compartment whilst accessing another.

To the side of the vehicle is a full height side door providing access to the ambient compartment which is fitted out with shelving, load lok and lashing points which allows a wide variety of loads to be transported safely. Next to this are two smaller shutter doors for access to the chilled compartment which are designed in such a way as to provide an easily accessible area for the drivers and creates an environment where the drivers can work from ground level and reduce the time take for deliveries. The shutters themselves are insulated to provide excellent thermal efficiency despite the wide apertures.

The final area, accessed via the rear doors, is the frozen compartment. The rear door features an occasional use side leaf door, allowing for pallets to be loaded and unloaded when necessary, but meaning when operators are entering and exiting the vehicle they can use the smaller personnel door to reduce temperature loss and in turn aid a quicker recovery and ensure the best utilisation of the refrigeration system.Inside, there is a large open compartment, and every available space is used, with a shelf created above the chilled area, fitted with load-retaining webbing to once again, totally maximise efficiencies.

Payload is kept high thanks to Solomon’s optimised lightweight body design, which provides a class leading payload without compromising on build quality and durability.

David Hughes, Managing Director says ‘Working with Solomon Commercials has enabled us to create a vehicle that provides our drivers with the safest possible working environment and to be able to deliver our products in the best possible condition whilst also allowing us to maximise our efficiencies by maintaining the temperature at all times and reducing our running costs.’
