Sunswap and JS Davidson Complete Successful Trial of Solar-Powered Refrigerated Transport

Sunswap, a leader in electric transport refrigeration, has successfully conducted a trial of its battery and solar-powered technology with JS Davidson, a key player in temperature-controlled logistics.

The 2-week trial showcased Sunswap’s Endurance refrigeration unit running frozen delivery cycles, seamlessly integrating into JS Davidson’s operations. Remarkably, the unit functioned without disrupting daily activities, proving to be a viable replacement for diesel-powered systems.

Data from the trial indicate that adopting five Sunswap units could allow JS Davidson to eliminate 519 tonnes of CO2 and 5 tonnes of NOx over their lifespan. Additionally, solar panels on the trailer top contributed to reducing grid dependency, potentially providing up to 37% of the energy needed during spring months, according to 10-year weather simulations.

Financially, the shift to Sunswap's technology could lead to a 70% reduction in operational costs compared to diesel units.

This successful trial underscores the potential for solar and battery-powered refrigeration to transform the temperature-controlled logistics industry, paving the way for significant environmental and cost benefits.
