The IIR and UNEP release a Cold Chain Technology Brief on Vaccines

The International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) and the UN Environment Programme partnered in the development of a cold chain technology brief on vaccines dedicated to government National Ozone Officers, policy makers, and refrigeration stakeholders.

This collaboration contributes to international efforts to reaffirm the indisputable role refrigeration plays in modern day life, and particularly in combating the current global pandemic.

Written by Gérald Cavalier (President of the IIR Science and Technology Council), the Brief provides an overview of vaccine temperature control, the different types of vaccine cold chain applications, good operational practices for vaccine cold chain applications, the types of refrigerants used and the challenges related to this sector.

Available in English, French, Spanish and Russian, the Brief is a valuable reference for better understanding the input of the cold chain on the vaccination lifecycle.

The Cold Chain Technology Brief on Vaccines can be downloaded from the IIR website at https://iifiir.org/en/fridoc/cold-chain-technology-brief-vaccines-144036.

This Brief is a continuation of the IIR-UNEP series of previously published cold chain technology briefs in several sectors:

Commercial, Professional and Domestic Refrigeration

  • Transport Refrigeration

  • Cold Storage and Refrigerated Warehouse

  • Refrigeration in Food Production and Processing

  • Fishing Vessel Application
