Thermo King launches E-Volution for electric truck fleets

Thermo King has launched the E-Volution range, an electric refrigeration solution for rigid trucks from 7.5 to 26 tonnes (about 8.3 to 28.7 US tons), and said the product is now in serial production. The company said the unit is compatible with leading battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and internal combustion engine (ICE) trucks, supporting single- and multi-temperature operation.

According to Thermo King, an independent third-party Life Cycle Assessment verified that E-Volution can deliver up to a 45% reduction in CO2 emissions compared with diesel refrigeration units. The company also said customer trial operations showed consistent temperature control, fast pulldown and recovery, and stable power consumption for day-to-day routes.

The platform is built around an integrated electric architecture intended to simplify installation and reduce component complexity. Thermo King said the unit has one of the slimmest and lightest profiles in its class, which can help reduce truck height and minimise vehicle energy consumption. The company also said the variable-speed system supports automatic and driver-operated noise control for deliveries in noise- and emission-restricted urban areas.

E-Volution includes built-in telematics for real-time performance data, temperature logging, system alarms and remote parameter adjustment, according to the company. Thermo King also said the simplified electric design uses fewer moving parts to reduce wear and maintenance requirements, and that the high-voltage DC system can connect directly to the high-voltage DC ePTO of a range of validated BEVs.

“The industry needs electric refrigeration that can demonstrate performance, reliability and a clear business case,” said Davide Previsdomini, Product Manager Truck at Thermo King. “E-Volution delivers all.”
