LG opens smart refrigerator factory in Brazil

LG Electronics has opened a new home appliance factory in Paraná, Brazil, expanding its manufacturing capacity in the country and supporting its growth plans across Latin America. The USD 310 million (BRL 1.5 billion) facility has annual production capacity of approximately 600,000 refrigerators.

The 770,000-square-meter plant is LG’s second home appliance production base in Brazil, alongside its Manaus facility in Amazonas. The new factory incorporates AI, industrial robotics and Vision AI-based inspection systems to improve production efficiency, product quality and workplace safety. Articulated robots handle tasks including the transportation of refrigerator doors.

Refrigerators produced at the Paraná facility were developed using local consumer research conducted by LG’s Brazil-based R&D team of approximately 40 professionals. The appliances support both 127V and 220V electrical systems and are designed for Brazil’s hot and humid climate and consumer lifestyles. They also feature LED-based internal sanitization intended to help prevent bacterial growth.

LG said local manufacturing is expected to improve logistics efficiency, reduce dependence on imports and cut delivery times by up to 80 percent. The factory will initially serve Brazil’s domestic market, with plans for it to become a production and export hub serving Latin America over the mid-to-long term.

“The new Paraná factory strengthens our production capabilities, enabling us to ensure a stable product supply and deliver appliances tailored to the evolving needs of consumers in Brazil and across Latin America,” said Baek Seung-tae, president of the LG Home Appliance Solution Company. “Through this strategic investment, we will continue to deliver differentiated customer experiences and reinforce our commitment to the region.”
