A-Gas gains AHRI certification for Canada’s only certified refrigerant lab

A-Gas announced that its laboratory in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, has received Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) laboratory certification. The company said the site, acquired as part of its Refrigerant Services Inc. (RSI) acquisition in March, is now the only AHRI certified lab in Canada.

A-Gas said the Dartmouth facility becomes one of three A-Gas labs in North America with AHRI certification, alongside its labs in Rhome, Texas, and Bowling Green, Ohio. The company said this gives it more than two AHRI certified labs on the continent.

According to A-Gas, the Dartmouth lab’s Canadian location and AHRI credentials will reduce turnaround times for lab analysis and refrigerant testing for Canadian clients. The company said customers will see lower shipping and duties fees, fewer complications with customs paperwork, and elimination of international shipping concerns.

A-Gas said the AHRI 700 standard sets benchmarks for reclaimed refrigerant purity and quality, outlining composition, purity, and contaminant limits for fluorocarbon, hydrocarbon, and carbon dioxide refrigerants regardless of source. The company added that the standard includes test methods applying to new, reclaimed, or repackaged refrigerants, including CFCs, HCFCs, HFCs, HFOs, A2Ls, and hydrocarbons.

A-Gas also said it operates a second Canadian lab in Stoney Creek, Ontario, which adheres to AHRI 700 practices, while the Dartmouth facility is the first in Canada to hold official AHRI certification. “A-Gas is incredibly proud to bring businesses a resource within Canada to meet their testing and analysis needs without the added burden of trans-border logistics,” said Andrew Stride, General Manager for A-Gas in Canada.
