The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) has published data indicating a significant increase in U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps in August 2024. The total shipments reached 975,841 units, an 11.2% rise from the 877,200 units shipped in August 2023.
In detail, shipments of air conditioners increased by 5.6%, totaling 571,153 units compared to 541,108 units in August 2023. There was a more substantial rise in air-source heat pump shipments, which jumped 20.4% to 404,688 units from 336,092 units the previous year.
Year-to-date, combined shipments of these products rose by 4.1% to 6,735,792 units, compared to 6,469,355 units in the same period of 2023. Specifically, air conditioner shipments increased by 3.2% to 3,903,730 units, while heat pump shipments saw a 5.4% rise to 2,832,062 units.
