The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) has released U.S. shipment data for central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps for January 2025, reporting a significant increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Total shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps reached 622,901 units in January 2025, reflecting a 29.9% increase from 479,374 units in January 2024.
Shipments of air conditioners alone saw a 40.0% rise, reaching 347,357 units, compared to 248,035 units shipped in January 2024. Meanwhile, air-source heat pump shipments increased by 19.1%, totaling 275,544 units, up from 231,339 units in the previous year.
A breakdown of shipments by capacity size shows notable growth in the 22,000–26,900 BTUH category, which increased by 41.6%, and the 39,000–43,900 BTUH category, which saw a 52.4% rise. However, shipments in higher capacity ranges, such as 65,000 BTUH and above, experienced declines.
