The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) has released data on U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps for December 2024. The report indicates a significant increase in shipments compared to the same period in 2023.
December 2024 Shipments
In December 2024, total shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps reached 519,326 units, reflecting a 19.2% increase from 435,589 units shipped in December 2023.
- Central air conditioner shipments grew by 23.4%, reaching 294,336 units, up from 238,542 units in December 2023.
- Air-source heat pump shipments rose by 14.2%, totaling 224,990 units, compared to 197,047 units shipped during the same period in 2023.
Year-to-Date Shipments
The year-to-date shipment figures also show an upward trend:
- Total combined shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps in 2024 increased by 11.8%, reaching 9,681,770 units, compared to 8,656,674 units shipped during the same period in 2023.
- Year-to-date central air conditioner shipments rose by 10.3%, with 5,559,766 units shipped, compared to 5,040,042 units in 2023.
- Year-to-date air-source heat pump shipments increased by 14.0%, totaling 4,122,004 units, up from 3,616,632 units in the same period of 2023.
