The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) has released data indicating a substantial rise in U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps for
October 2024. The total shipments for these categories reached 815,360 units, marking a significant 53.1 percent increase from the 532,569 units shipped in October 2023.
Breaking down the figures, shipments of central air conditioners alone increased by 46.7 percent, with 449,972 units shipped in October 2024, compared to 306,735 units in the same month the previous year. Air-source heat pumps saw an even more impressive rise, with a 61.8 percent increase, totaling 365,388 units, up from 225,834 units in October 2023.
Assessing the year-to-date statistics, combined shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps have grown by 8.9 percent, reaching 8,455,008 units, compared to 7,765,225 units shipped during the same period in 2023. Central air conditioner shipments contributed to this growth with a 7.1 percent increase, totaling 4,873,899 units, compared to 4,551,330 units shipped in the same period last year. Heat pumps continued to outperform with an 11.4 percent increase, with 3,581,109 units shipped year-to-date, compared to 3,213,895 units in 2023.
This upward trend reflects a robust demand for heating and cooling solutions in the United States, underscoring the strength and resilience of the HVAC market amid evolving consumer needs and energy efficiency trends.
