AIRAH releases new edition of DA19: HVAC&R Maintenance

AIRAH has released a brand new edition of its best-selling design application (DA) manual, DA19: HVAC&R Maintenance.
“Maintenance for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration has never been more important,” says AIRAH CEO Tony Gleeson, M.AIRAH. “Our economy depends on reliable, effective and efficient HVAC&R like never before, which means it also depends on HVAC&R maintenance like never before.
“That’s where DA19 HVAC&R Maintenance comes in. Now in its fourth edition, DA19 has been the definitive reference for HVAC&R maintenance in Australia for more than 20 years. It is the authoritative guideline for HVAC&R maintenance.”
HVAC&R systems provide comfort conditions within buildings, support many processes, and enable other systems to operate. Owners, managers and operators rely on what are often complex HVAC&R systems to successfully run their businesses. Failure to properly maintain these systems reduces their useful life, increases operating costs, and introduces unreliability, dissatisfaction and risk to a business’s operation.
“Good maintenance practices underpin the performance of HVAC&R services,” says DA19 editor Vince Aherne, F.AIRAH. “They promote safety, reliability and comfort, and help us manage operational costs, meet environmental ratings and comply with legislated duties. Failure to maintain is risky; it creates costs and reduces returns.”
Aherne says each version of DA19 has built and improved on the previous iteration, and that’s certainly the case with the new 208-page fourth edition.
“This edition has been developed with considerable industry engagement,” Aherne says. “It features significant updates relating to energy efficiency, system sustainability, asset management and the digitisation of maintenance – or ‘smart maintenance’. The emergence of data-driven digitally enabled maintenance is probably the biggest change/opportunity/challenge/threat facing the industry today.”
In concert with the release of the new edition of DA19,AIRAH – with support from the ARBS Education & Research Foundation – has developed a DA19 user guide. This online resource (available at www.DA19FMuserguide.com) is provided free to industry, and is intended to help facility managers and building owners to better understand the steps they must take when using DA19 to specify their HVAC&R maintenance needs.
The DA19 user guide is endorsed by the Property Council of Australia (PCA), the Facility Management Association (FMA) and the Air Conditioning and Mechanical Contractors Association (AMCA).
AIRAH is also holding a national half-day seminar series highlighting the key changes to DA19’s 2019 edition; how to use the manual in everyday practice; and why maintenance of HVAC&R systems is so important.
Taking place in capital cities, the seminars are slated to begin on October 15 in Hobart and conclude in Adelaide on October 30.
