Capacity building for trainers in the refrigeration sector

The ROCA project, in partnership with the national ozone office and the Heat consultancy firm, organized two training sessions for refrigeration and air-conditioning trainers from several towns in Burkina Faso in June.

As part of the promotion of green cooling technologies and the preservation of the ozone layer, two training workshops on air conditioning and refrigeration were organised in Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso on the theme: "Introduction to the handling of hydrocarbon fluids in Burkina Faso" for refrigeration and air conditioning trainers.
Thirty-five (35) trainers from refrigeration and air conditioning schools and training centres in towns such as Ouagadougou, Ziniaré, Koudougou and Bobo-Dioulasso benefited from this capacity-building. These sessions took place from 29 to 02 June 2023 in Ouagadougou and from 05 June to 09 June 2023 in Bobo-Dioulasso. This training enabled them to strengthen their teaching practices and their knowledge of the use of natural refrigerants.

As a result, they will now be able to put the skills they have acquired to good use in further training courses on the use of green cooling technologies. Over five days, each group of participants was introduced to the handling of refrigerants and the maintenance of related equipment.

At the end of the course, the participants were satisfied with the quality and relevance of the training. "The content of the modules was rich in information, and the trainer was excellent", said Mr Kambwolé Racine, a teacher at the Lycée Professionnel Régional du Centre.

We learned a lot about natural refrigerants, fluid recovery and the safety involved in handling these fluids. I'm very happy to have taken part in this training course. I would like to thank the GIZ ROCA project for this initiative," added Ms Zongo Mariame, a teacher at the Bassy vocational school in Ziniaré. This training comes at just the right time in an era when initiatives are being taken to replace the harmful fluids that are swarming the markets with natural, ozone-friendly and climate-friendly fluids. The training was implemented by GIZ Proklima as part of the ROCA (opens in a new window)project, which is co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

In future, technicians will be familiar with the maintenance and handling of these refrigerants and appliances containing them. An advantage for the introduction of these appliances in Burkina Faso.
