Carrier achieves first DOE-validated 10–14-ton rooftop unit in U.S.

Carrier Global Corporation has become the first HVAC manufacturer to complete the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Commercial Building HVAC Technology Challenge laboratory validation in the 10–14-ton rooftop heat pump category.

The tested system met or exceeded all challenge criteria, including delivering 100% heating capacity at 5°F (-15°C), more than 70% heating capacity at -10°F (-23°C), and meeting or surpassing the DOE's commercial HVAC energy efficiency standards.

The DOE challenge aims to promote adoption of high-performance HVAC equipment that lowers energy consumption, reduces operating costs, and supports grid reliability through reduced demand. Independent testing was conducted by the DOE, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

“This milestone is about performance that pays,” said Heidi Gehring, Managing Director, Light Commercial, Carrier. “Customers can realize lower energy bills with reliable comfort, while utilities benefit from a more efficient system that helps support grid reliability.”
