Carrier China Provides Sustainable Solutions for Hangzhou Olympic Stadiums

Carrier Air-conditioning Sales & Service (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (Carrier China) was selected for a series of projects in the Main Stadium and three sports venues of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. The contracts include high efficiency water source heat pumps, air handling units (AHUs), a chiller plant control system and fan coil units at the Main Stadium of Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center and all of the AHUs at the three Olympic sports venues.

The 19th Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China from September 10 to 25, 2022. The 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games will adhere to the tenets of “green, intelligent, economical and civilized.” The Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center, the main venue of the 2022 Asian Games, is undoubtedly important to the success of the international sports event.

The Main Stadium of the Olympic Sports Center, which serves as the main track and field venue, will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the Hangzhou Asian Games. The customer required that the air conditioning system performance meet the top green building standards set by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD) Three Star system, in order to achieve high efficiency and energy saving. In 2015, Carrier was chosen to provide high efficiency 30XW water source heat pumps, high reliability 39G AHUs and hundreds of 42CE fan coil units for the venue. Together with its high performance control system, Carrier’s solutions demonstrated excellent energy-saving control, and Carrier China was again selected to provide equipment to the three new sports venues in 2019.

"The venues of large-scale international sports events have very strict requirements for equipment reliability, energy saving and emissions reduction," said Cissy Wang, General Manager, Commercial Equipment Distribution, Carrier China. "The sales team won the trust of the customer and ultimately the contract by submitting excellent solutions that met customer needs with advanced technologies, high-quality software and hardware."

The three Olympic sports venues, including the main stadium, swimming center and comprehensive training center, are the largest newly built venues for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. The customer had very detailed technical requirements for the air handlers. Hundreds of Carrier 39CQ AHUs including many applications of heat recovery wheels were installed.

"This is a highly inspiring business win," said Titus Yu, Managing Director, Carrier Commercial HVAC Equipment, North Asia. "The 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games is a historic international sports event and it is a great honor that Carrier is able to contribute to the goal of achieving a ‘Low Carbon Asian Games.’”
