Daikin Industries, Kajima Corporation, ILYA Corporation and point0 will test the business potential of an air-conditioned bench designed to reduce perceived temperature by 5°C. The bench will be installed at Marunouchi Street Park 2026 Summer in Tokyo from July 24 to August 23, 2026.
The four companies will survey users and collect usage data to assess the potential for creating more comfortable rest areas in urban outdoor public spaces. The trial will also support evaluation toward future commercialization and business development.
The bench delivers airflow from its back and sides to create a cooler outdoor seating area during hot weather. Its design and structure use wood offcuts.
Daikin applied its air-conditioning technology and expertise to the equipment and internal bench structure. Kajima will conduct evaluation and analysis based on its knowledge of human thermal sensation, while ILYA handled the design and engineering. point0 contributed proposals for using the bench as an outdoor third place that integrates with the surrounding streetscape and natural environment.
The bench will be installed in Block 2 of Marunouchi Street Park 2026 Summer on Marunouchi Naka-dori in Chiyoda, Tokyo. The unit used in the trial will be a third prototype.
