ebm-papst wins second straight international packaging prize

Sebastian Gruber, packaging engineer at ebm-papst in Mulfingen, has won the WorldStar Packaging Award in the transport category for the second time in a row. Along with Mario Kurz, packaging consultant at ebm-papst’s supplier Mondi, he traveled all the way to Australia, where this year’s awards ceremony was held, to receive the award.

This time the internationally recognized award honored Gruber’s idea of improving the two-part packaging for housing-mounted axial fans; now only a single part is needed, substantially reducing the amount of packaging material (cardboard) and the setup time. Specifically, the change results in an impressive 30% reduction in material and a 48% reduction in setup time.

For his idea of transport stacking corners for industrial fans, Gruber had already won the German Packaging Award in the economic efficiency category last fall, qualifying him again for the WorldStar Packaging Award.

Gruber said, “I’m very pleased to win the world’s most important prize in the packaging sector again. This award is an outstanding confirmation of our work, and it also gave me a great opportunity to talk shop with fellow packaging experts from all over the world at the 2018 awards ceremony. That was very interesting and helpful.
