ECOOLTEC expands sustainable transport refrigeration to the Iberian market.
German manufacturer ECOOLTEC Grosskopf GmbH has entered the Spanish market, appointing Ruben Climent as Sales and Service Manager Iberia. The move marks the company’s continued internationalisation, aiming to establish regional sales structures and a local service network for its low-emission transport refrigeration systems.
With existing operations in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the UK, and Benelux, ECOOLTEC is targeting Spain due to its climate conditions and regulatory environment. As a European Union member, Spain is subject to F-gas and REACH regulations, which are progressively restricting the use of climate-impacting synthetic refrigerants, including PFAS-related substances. ECOOLTEC’s technology offers an alternative that aligns with these legislative trends.
Climent brings extensive experience in engineering and aftersales of transport refrigeration and electric drive systems. He has worked with several prominent industry players and will focus on building relationships with local service companies and body builders. “The potential for sustainable transport refrigeration systems in Spain is enormous,” Climent stated. “Fleet operators are actively seeking alternatives, and we are already seeing strong interest from key decision-makers.”
ECOOLTEC systems are fully electric and do not rely on diesel engines. They can be powered via a high-performance alternator linked to the vehicle engine, a battery, or a separate alternator. This setup eliminates local pollutant and CO2 emissions in battery mode and reduces emissions by up to 98% when using the alternator drive.
The systems use natural refrigerants instead of conventional hydrofluorocarbons like R452A or R410A, which have Global Warming Potential (GWP) values near 2,000. ECOOLTEC units utilize refrigerants with GWP values as low as 3 and 1, offering high energy efficiency. The result is a refrigeration system that requires 60–80% less energy than diesel-powered counterparts, while maintaining high cooling capacity suitable for hot climates like Spain.
“This is the next logical step,” said Henning Altebäumer, CEO of ECOOLTEC. “Fleet operators across Europe are increasingly looking for future-proof, low-emission technologies that comply with evolving regulations. Our entry into Spain meets both market demand and our customers’ cross-border needs.”
