Energy Recovery reports efficiency gains with PX G1300 in CO2 supermarket systems

Energy Recovery has released performance data from supermarket installations across North America and Europe, showing that its PX G1300 pressure exchanger can reduce energy and water use in CO₂ refrigeration systems. The results include up to 15% annualized energy savings, up to 22% improvement in the coefficient of performance (COP), and water savings of up to 460,000 gallons per site.

The PX G1300 was tested in diverse store locations and system configurations, including setups with adiabatic gas coolers, parallel compression, and heat reclaim. According to the company, all evaluated supermarkets experienced performance improvements regardless of system design.

Testing was conducted through side-by-side comparisons of refrigeration systems operating with and without the PX G1300 under similar load and weather conditions. The technology also demonstrated stable performance in high-temperature environments and reduced water consumption when using its water savings mode.

“Supermarkets face a constant balancing act, needing to control costs, meet regulatory requirements, and keep systems running reliably even during extreme weather,” said Ricardo Freitas, Vice President of CO₂ at Energy Recovery. “The PX G1300 gives operators an edge, cutting energy and water use while helping systems perform through demanding heat wave events.”
