Eurovent Certification launches sustainability support for HVACR data

Eurovent Certification has launched a new Sustainability Department to support manufacturers with environmental data for procurement, reporting, and regulatory readiness. The new department is initially focused on Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) services for HVACR products, with plans to expand support to a broader range of sustainability topics over time.

According to Eurovent Certification, environmental data in the HVACR sector is affected by inconsistent standards and guidelines across countries and sometimes within the same sector. The organisation said variable methodologies, data and supply-chain gaps, refrigerants, use-phase energy modelling, regulatory uncertainty, and the cost and resources required to produce and maintain EPDs can make the process difficult for manufacturers.

Led by Sustainability Director Alejandro Fernández De Mera and LCA Lead Fabián Andrés Diaz Sanchez, the new department has introduced an end-to-end EPD service. The service includes data scoping, LCA modelling, EPD drafting aligned with EN 15804 and ISO 14025, support with programme operator selection, verification coordination, and publication.

Eurovent Certification is also offering LCA services to help manufacturers assess the environmental impacts of their products. The company said these services include Product Environmental Footprint-ready lifecycle studies aligned with the European Commission’s methodology, advanced lifecycle modelling for Ecodesign and portfolio strategy, and scenario analysis to test potential improvements.

Beyond individual projects, Eurovent Certification said it is working with the industry to improve the consistency and usability of sustainability data. Its approach aligns with recommendations from Eurovent Association and is intended to support greater harmonisation of lifecycle methodologies, improved comparability of environmental data, and increased automation of sustainability workflows. Sustainability services are available to both certified and non-certified manufacturers.
