Eurovent publishes cPCR guidance for heat pumps, air conditioning

Eurovent has published a Recommendation with guidance on complementary Product Category Rules for heat pump and air-conditioning equipment. The document is intended to support the development of consistent Environmental Product Declarations and harmonised life-cycle assessment practices as sustainability requirements expand under European regulatory frameworks and building policies.

The Recommendation sets out methodological rules that complement EN 15804 and EN 50693 for preparing EPDs for this equipment. It is intended to serve as a reference for manufacturers, consultants and environmental experts until a harmonised European cPCR standard is developed.

According to Eurovent, the Recommendation focuses on product description, scope and performance characteristics, functional and declared units, reference service life, and assumptions for the product, construction, use and end-of-life stages. It applies to heat pump and air-conditioning equipment covered by CEN/TC 113 and addresses the whole life cycle from cradle to grave.

“The publication provides guidance on key aspects required for reliable environmental reporting, including product description and scope, functional and declared units. This is part of Eurovent’s broader programme to harmonise environmental product declarations across multiple HVAC product categories and support the industry’s transition toward more transparent and standardised sustainability reporting,” said Stijn Renneboog, Deputy Secretary General of Eurovent.
