Eurovent has released a new Recommendation on complementary Product Category Rules (cPCR) for commercial refrigeration equipment. The guidance provides a harmonised methodology for preparing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and lifecycle assessments (LCAs) specific to commercial refrigeration products.
The document is intended to support manufacturers, consultants, and environmental professionals in adopting consistent and transparent environmental reporting practices, particularly in the absence of formalised standards. It applies to a wide range of commercial refrigeration equipment such as refrigerated display cabinets, beverage coolers, and ice-cream freezers used in food retail, food service, and cold chain operations.
Eurovent’s Recommendation outlines a consistent set of rules and assumptions for evaluating and reporting the environmental performance of products. It responds to growing regulatory and market demand for greater sustainability and product transparency in the HVACR sector.
“Manufacturers and users of commercial refrigeration equipment need a harmonised approach to life-cycle assessment and environmental declarations,” said Stijn Renneboog, Deputy Secretary General of Eurovent. “This guidance defines consistent methodological rules for calculating and reporting life-cycle impacts for commercial refrigeration products, as part of Eurovent’s wider programme to harmonise environmental declarations across HVAC product categories.”
The Recommendation is available for free download in the Publications section of the
Eurovent website.
