EXKAL cabinets in SPAR PUERTO RICO, winner supermarket of “EuroShop RetailDesign Award 2020”

The SPAR Puerto Rico supermarket in Gran Canaria (Spain), equipped with EXKAL furniture, has been awarded internationally for innovation in its store designs.

The innovation in the design of the new SPAR Gran Canaria stores has been recognized internationally in the world’s largest fair of capital goods in the retail sector: EuroShop. Specifically, the RCO Arquitectos team and its design, the SPAR Market Puerto Rico store, belonging to the SPAR Mogán group, have been the winners of one of the most recognized international design awards in the commercial sector: EuroShop RetailDesign Award. On Sunday, February 16, in a spectacular gala held in Düsseldorf, the studio of Canarian architects, who has also taken charge of new designs and renovations of spaces in many of our SPAR Gran Canaria stores, proclaimed the great winner of These important international awards in front of the 73 design proposals presented by other graphic and architectural studies from 22 countries of the world.

Among its competitors were the new Versace store in Miami; the Virgin Megastor of Dubai; the Dunnes Cork hypermarket in Ireland or the Fobby de Laussane supermarket.

The SPAR Market supermarket in Puerto Rico, located in the new commercial center of this tourist area, has been the result of inspiration, according to the words of Orlando Ojeda, CEO of RCO Arquitectos, based on “the essence of a traditional market, moved to space of a contemporary supermarket ”. Thus, the design of this new SPAR store in Gran Canaria, which has more than 2,000 square meters of surface, is based on a linear route through a wide street where the customer can enjoy different areas and thematic corners of gourmet products , in addition to original sections of greengrocers, delicatessens, butchers, fishmongers, bakeries and prepared meals.

The thematic corners have been one of the main attractions of this SPAR store, incorporating a spectacular “Cheese Cava”, with more than 400 local, national and international references of these products; a ‘Wine cellar’, unique in Gran Canaria, which has 500 wine references and a gourmet corner where the client can taste and taste up to 16 types of wines; and a ‘Cava de Cervezas’, which includes a wide variety and typology of this drink, which highlights the craft beers produced on the Island. Alongside these Cavas, the design of the SPAR Puerto Rico Market has also incorporated a cozy’ Rincon of Ham ‘to dispense to its customers various varieties of serrano ham to the cut.

The jury of the EuroShop RetailDesign especially valued the innovation of the designs in each space of our SPAR Market Puerto Rico store: the decorative ceilings of the cellars with the superimposition of materials, the careful lighting of each space and a very original scenery in each corner from this supermarket The large glass facade and the cafeteria that add to this modern establishment are other important novel aspects of the design.
