First Trainees Complete Carrier Transicold UK Accredited SOE Training Academy Course

The first eight service partner technicians have graduated from Carrier Transicold UK’s Training Academy programme, a continuing professional development course accredited by the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE). The three-year course supports Carrier Transicold UK’s commitment to nurturing new talent within its service partner network. Carrier Transicold, which operates in the UK as Carrier Transicold (UK) Limited, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp.

The Training Academy’s mission is to ensure a steady flow of new talent into the company’s service partner network by leading the way in providing quality training for future generations of transport refrigeration engineers. Each service partner is an independent company, providing service for Carrier Transicold equipment.

“It’s great to see our first technicians complete the course and we’re delighted that demand for enrolment continues to grow,” said Neil Maher, network operations manager, Carrier Transicold UK. “Our service partners value the programme and are keen to get the next generation of skilled technicians working in the industry. The knowledge and experience these technicians acquire over three years will prove invaluable to our service partner network.

Each trainee takes part in five modules per year, led by two refrigeration engineering experts with more than 60 years’ experience between them. The course covers subjects such as environment, health and safety; technical communication skills; and the City & Guilds 2079 Category 1 F-Gas qualification. Outside the classroom, the candidates work closely in the field with senior service technicians, putting their new-found knowledge into practice at their respective service partner centres.

“I’ve found the whole experience quite life-changing and I’ve even surprised myself with how much I’ve taken away from the course,” said Carl Walker, a trainee refrigeration engineer who will be graduating this year. “There’s plenty of young people who want to get in to this industry and with the quality of training available from Carrier, I highly recommend it.” The SOE is one of 35 professional engineering institutions licensed by the UK’s Engineering Council regulatory body to support companies and workers in the engineering industry. It is committed to advancing operations engineering as a career through education, training, study and research.
