GE Appliances to Invest $3 Billion in U.S. Manufacturing Over Five Years

GE Appliances, a Haier company, has announced a $3 billion investment plan to expand its U.S. manufacturing operations over the next five years. The initiative will modernize production facilities, grow its product portfolio in air conditioning and water heating, and create over 1,000 new jobs across plants in Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina.

This investment will enhance production capabilities across all product lines and introduce new automation technologies at the company’s 11 U.S. manufacturing sites. It follows previous capital projects, bringing the company's total U.S. investments to $6.5 billion since 2016.

Initial projects include expanding the Camden, South Carolina plant to manufacture electric and hybrid heat pump water heaters, doubling the site’s output and employment by early 2026. In Selmer, Tennessee, GE Appliances will launch two new 2-ton Vertical Zoneline® air conditioner models in December 2025. At the LaFayette, Georgia facility, production is expanding to include gas ranges previously made in Mexico. The Decatur, Alabama plant will insource six 22 cu. ft. top-freezer refrigerator models, with ramp-up planned by the end of August 2025. In Louisville, Kentucky, a $490 million investment will support new washer and combo washer/dryer production and create 800 jobs.

GE Appliances is also focused on workforce development. Since 2016, the company has added over 4,000 jobs and expects to create 1,000 more under the new plan. Initiatives include partnerships with educational institutions, apprenticeship programs, flexible work schedules, transportation support, and on-site primary care clinics.

“Our $3 billion, five-year plan shows that our commitment to U.S. manufacturing will continue into the future,” said Kevin Nolan, President and CEO of GE Appliances.

According to its 2024 Economic Impact Report, GE Appliances contributes over $30 billion annually to the U.S. GDP and supports more than 113,000 jobs through its operations and supply network.
