Heat Pumps Are the Future, Declares Germany's Economic Affairs Minister

Germany's Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, Robert Habeck, has declared heat pumps as pivotal to the future of climate-friendly heating solutions. This declaration came during his heat pump tour, which included a stop at a new Viessmann heat pump installation in Bremen-Walle.

During his visit, Habeck viewed the Vitocal 250-A system installed in the home of Linda and Martin Gruet. The system includes a 50-liter buffer cylinder and is a project by Uwe Röhrs, a Viessmann partner company now run by Steffen Röhrs.

“The tradesmen are trusted partners in advancing climate-friendly heat pump technology,” Habeck stated. His sentiments were echoed by Bremen Senator Kathrin Moosdorf: “The heat pump is the future in Bremen.”

The Vitocal 250-A outdoor unit drew significant attention from the media. Steffen Röhrs highlighted that switching to heat pumps could save homeowners between 500 and 1000 euros annually compared to gas heating.

Habeck's visit also included a housing association in Hanover, where old gas systems were replaced by large heat pumps. This project demonstrated the capabilities of modern heat pumps like the Vitocal.

The Vitocal 250-A, which operates on climate-friendly propane, can achieve up to 70 degrees for heating water, though 55 degrees is typically sufficient. This system's quiet operation was further showcased at Röhrs’ business premises in Bremen's former tobacco district.

Habeck, emphasizing the benefits of heat pumps, pointed out their capacity to increase property value. However, he acknowledged challenges needing addressal in Berlin: high electricity prices, efficient replacement incentives, continuous funding, and flexible connection policies to municipal heating networks.

Overall, the event underscored the significant role of heat pumps in Germany’s transition to sustainable energy solutions.
