Liebherr Appliances has announced the expansion of its operations in the United States, with a dedicated focus on increasing production capabilities at its facility in Newport News, Virginia. The move is part of the company’s long-term strategy to enhance its presence in the North American market.
The expansion aims to support growing demand for Liebherr’s household refrigeration products, specifically targeting the North American customer base. The facility in Newport News, operational since 2018, currently manufactures built-in refrigerators and freezers.
According to the company, the expansion will primarily increase manufacturing capacity, streamline logistics, and improve supply chain efficiency. Planned investments include new production lines and an increase in workforce, although specific figures have not been publicly disclosed.
Dr. Thomas Diesch, Divisional Director for Liebherr Appliances International, stated, “The expansion of our production capacities in Newport News strengthens our commitment to the U.S. market and allows us to serve our customers in North America with premium, locally manufactured appliances.”
Liebherr emphasized the decision aligns with its goal to localize production closer to key markets, reduce lead times, and ensure faster delivery. The move is also expected to improve local service and support for North American partners.
The Newport News facility was originally established as the company’s first refrigeration factory in North America. With this expansion, Liebherr aims to bolster the factory’s role in supplying the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Peter Wiedemann, Managing Director of Liebherr Appliances, added, “This investment is a strategic step toward further establishing our footprint in North America.”
The company has not provided a timeline for completion of the facility’s expansion.
